I am glad speedwork is done because between that and weights Monday I wasn't fully recovered this morning when I headed out for what was supposed to be an 8 mile run. Tired and sore isn't the way to start out but I did and it showed... barely got 6 done at a 10:30 pace.. a few weeks ago I was right around 10:00.?????? Something definitely isn't right when you are regressing.. Time to rethink my training!
But it was a beautiful morning to run.. got out while it was still dark and about 20 minutes into the run the sun started coming up, slowing warming things up. I was out on Toronto Rd headed toward LLCC and there was a deer off in the grass between the sidewalk and a cornfield... kept looking back over her shoulder too, probably had a family waiting somewhere.. went up a little further and turned around and this time she was on the sidewalk.. my sidewalk! She just stared at me as I got closer and closer.. Ok missy, you gonna make me go around you?? Nope, she darted off just as I got w/in 10 feet of her..
Was talking yesterday at the track about training and consensus was that they take a day off after a hard speed workout. I haven't and I think it's catching up with me. Instead of getting stronger and faster I'm getting slower.. SOOOOO no more speedwork at noon in the hot sun..
I can still do sprints and various things during my (now) Tuesday morning runs.. It's always 4-5 miles so that will work out. Mondays will still be weights but I think that darn hard workout in the hot sun is dragging me down... the guys might be used to it, I'm not! And it's not even 24 hrs recovery.. only 18, before I'm up running again Wednesday a.m.. That can't be good, right??
M-Th workouts then long run on Saturdays is tough, and I knew it would be.. marathon training ain't easy, but I think taking out the hard Tuesday speedwork and going with just a morning run (like the schedule says) is the ticket. At least for me..
Funny that your body can tell you exactly what you need to know.. especially when training is having reverse effects!! But all's not lost... still on a pretty good pace for marathon day!!
